As before ganesh chaturthi is started people start buying that idols of ganesh chaturthi from the market. People brought their idols at their home and start decorating them with fruits and flowers and the prayers are also sung by the people.
A puja is held at the home performed with family members along with the cassettes of Shri ganesh Mantras and bhajans with a priest brought in house."Modak" is a special type of food which is the most typical food for God Ganesha.
Immersion of Lord Ganesha |
The festival comes to an end on the day of Anant chaudas. On this day the idols are taken to the puja rooms for a truely royal ride. This festival is popularly celebrated in the southern states of the india. The streets of the cities are fully crowded and the voices of "Ganpati Bappa Moriya Pudhchya Varshi Lavkarya" are shouted loudly which means "Oh my ganpati please return soon next year". The fire crackers are cracked in the end of the day. Then the idols of Lord Ganesh are carried in to a wagon towards the sea-shore for their immersion in the water. In this way, this holy festival is celebrated all over the country with great joy as it is a festival inspiring devotees to inculcate redemptive virtues in their life.
